Outdoor Maternity Photoshoot - Polloksheilds

Published on

Last Thursday I met up with Bex for her maternity shoot. Bex writes a fantastic blog lifestyle & fashion blog The Olive Dragonfly and is 21 weeks pregnant with IVF twins (a boy and a girl). We decided to do the shoot at Pollokshields Burgh Hall which is situated in the beautiful grounds of Maxwell Park. This place was special to Bex as it's where she got married, and choosing a meaningful place and exploring different spaces within the park can really enhance the experience and the resulting pictures. Before heading to the park we took a few photos at her stunning flat as I just loved the decor. It was early evening and the sun was getting low in the sky which gave everything a beautiful glow—sunset is often considered the best time for outdoor maternity photoshoots due to the beautiful light. It was a lovely warm night - perfect for taking photos, and weather conditions like this can play a big role in planning an outdoor maternity session. The changing seasons, such as fall, can also provide unique colors and atmosphere for outdoor maternity photoshoots. The moon or evening sky can add a special ambiance to the photos, giving the session a bit of magic.

Bex loves her accessories and she mixed up the outfit changes with different statement necklaces and other jewellery. Deciding what to wear for an outdoor maternity photoshoot is important, and accessories can add a bit of magic to the images.

During the session, we focused on capturing special moments and creating pictures that document this stage for the mother. If partners or dad are present, their involvement can add to the family story. It's important not to forget to relax and enjoy the moment during the shoot. Capturing these memories in natural settings creates timeless, meaningful images that celebrate this unique life stage.

If you would be interested in a maternity shoot either outdoors or in the studio, please drop me a message to book a session. I work closely with clients to create a relaxed and memorable experience. I’d love it if you shared my images on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter.

Benefits of Outdoor Settings

Choosing an outdoor maternity photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate and document the journey of pregnancy. One of the greatest advantages of an outdoor maternity shoot is the abundance of natural light, which brings out the beauty of every mum-to-be and highlights the glow of this special time. The golden hour, with its soft, warm light, is especially magical for maternity photography, casting a gentle radiance that flatters the bump and creates truly stunning maternity photos.

Outdoor maternity sessions offer a relaxed and calm atmosphere, allowing families to feel at ease in front of the camera. The natural surroundings help mums, dads, and children to unwind, making it easier to capture authentic maternity poses and genuine family photos. Whether it’s the fresh greens of spring, the vibrant colours of autumn, or the crisp air of winter, each season brings its own unique charm to outdoor maternity shoots, giving families the chance to choose the perfect time and location to match their vision.

Nature provides a beautiful, ever-changing backdrop that adds depth and elegance to maternity photos. From lush trees to open fields and tranquil gardens, outdoor locations offer endless possibilities for creative shots and storytelling. These settings encourage play, laughter, and connection, resulting in heartfelt images that reflect the joy and anticipation of welcoming a new baby into the world.

Planning an outdoor maternity photoshoot is also an opportunity to express your personal style. Thoughtful choices in outfits and styling can complement the natural environment and help create a cohesive, visually appealing look. With a keen eye for detail and a clear vision, a professional photographer can guide you through the process, ensuring your maternity session is both enjoyable and stress-free.

Ultimately, an outdoor maternity photoshoot is more than just a photo session—it’s a chance to capture the love, excitement, and beauty of this stage in life. These photos become cherished memories, telling the story of your family’s journey and the anticipation of meeting your little one. Don’t miss the opportunity to document this incredible moment in a stunning outdoor setting, and create memories you’ll treasure for years to come.
