The Kelpies Monument Falkirk

Published on

Last weekend my husband and I took a drive out to Falkirk to visit the Kelpies. The Kelpies are 30-metre high horse-head sculptures designed by sculptor Andy Scott and are a monument to horse powered heritage across Scotland.

I was supposed to go a few weeks prior to this with some friends from a camera club at sunset but unfortunately I hadn't been able to go. After seeing the fantastic images they took that evening with the lovely golden light I was keen to get out and take some of my own.

On the day the weather did not look promising, the light was very flat and boring so I wasn't expecting to capture anything amazing. When we arrived I was blown away by the scale of these sculptures, they are very dramatic and quite beautiful (I have a thing about sculptures - I was moved to tears the first time I saw the Eiffel tower & the Statue of Liberty) I spent ages wandering around, exploring them from every angle. It was very busy so I had to shoot above the crowd which was not ideal but then sun made a brief appearance and the clouds parted and I managed to get a few nice shots. I definitely want to go back one night at sunset to capture that golden glow on the Kelpies.
