Cake smash photography sessions started in America a number of years ago and has since made its way to Glasgow. A cake smash session is a fun and special way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. Each smash session includes the opportunity to capture beautiful baby portraits combined with the fun cake smash element.
To get the best out of cake smash photo shoots and make them a unique experience book before your baby's first birthday. Doing so will allow enough time to get your amazing photos for first birthday party invitations or to mark this birthday milestone.
Professional Cake Smash Photographer
A cake smash photography session begins with a mini photo shoot. This provides an opportunity to capture some adorable photos of your baby in their clothes specially selected for the occasion. Then it's time for the fun to begin! Often at a cake smash photoshoot it is the first time most baby's have ever eaten cake. As a result kids love to dive right in covering their hair, body and face in birthday cake and sometimes even crawling through it.
Finally to deal with all the mess at the end of the cake smash I have a little tin tub for the baby to clean up, and photograph in. You may bring some bubble bath if you want to as this makes for very cute photos at the end.
Cake smash sessions are lots of fun for everyone involved and an experience most parents will never forget and is lots of fun for everyone involved.

Each customer's birthday cake is specially made to order for the prearranged cake smash session. This allows customers to choose colours as well as providing any dietary requirements that may need to be catered for. Furthermore the studio also has a range of bespoke photography cake smash outfits and toys that can be used during the photo shoot.

When to book
Cake smash sessions are perfect for celebrating your baby’s first birthday (or their second!). To ensure availability, it’s best to book 2–3 months in advance, especially if you want the images ready for a birthday party or invitations.

FAQs
What is cake smash photography?
A cake smash session involve placing your little one in front of a birthday cake to mark there 1st birthday and taking pictures as they tear their way through it. They are lots of fun and the images can be used for invitations to their first birthday or thank you cards.
How much is a cake smash photo shoot?
Cake smash photographers have varying styles, setups and skill. This is reflected in the price of Cake Smashes at my Studio I have two packages that are all inclusive one includes the smash and splash. The other include just the cake smash itself.
What if my baby has allergies?
All my cake smash cakes are custom may by an award winning cake designer and if you book with Louise Mallan Photography we will work together with you to ensure that your baby's needs are catered for.
What if my baby is uncooperative on the day?
All sessions are baby led as children cannot be forced to perform. I try to create fun experience for baby's and parents, I want you to leave cake smashes happy. I try to only book one customer per day so should things go wrong there is no pressure.
Will parents get messy at a cake smashes?
I get asked this a lot and the answer is most likely, as the photographer even I get messy, so messy I now wear an apron!
What should my baby wear?
I have a range of photography cake smash outfits for children to wear specifically for a cake smash but if you have something in particular in mind, get in touch and I can advise you on what to wear.
Do you supply the cake?
Yes, the cost of a custom made cake is included in the session fee. You can provide your own if you wish.
What should I bring, do you have props?
Yes, I have some lovely bespoke props, outfits and blankets that we will use during your session although I like to keep things simple and focused on your baby. I recommend bringing one outfit with you which I will photograph your baby wearing at the start. The rest of the session will be done just wearing their nappy. If you child has a favourite toy that you would like them photographed with then please bring it along as well.
