Newborn Photography Glasgow - Preparing For Your Session

1st February 2018

BOOKING A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

When you book your newborn photography session with me I will add your due date to my diary.  Once your baby arrives we will arrange a suitable date for you to attend and I will send you some helpful information on how best to prepare for your session.  Your newborn photography session will be more successful by following my useful instructions.

AWAKE TIME FOR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

The most important thing that I advise is to have 1-2 hours of awake time with the baby just before the session.  Even if you think that your baby sleeps all the time it is important that you follow this step.  When transitioning from one pose to the next I will be moving the baby, and if they have had no awake time prior to the session they will not be in a deep enough sleep to allow me to do this.  If you have a long car journey to my photography studio it is best if you try to keep the baby awake during this time as well so that they can fall into a nice deep sleep when they get here.  To help keep the baby calm and relaxed I use white noise as well as some special soothing techniques that I have learned over the years.  ?

FEEDING YOUR BABY BEFORE THE PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

I also request that the baby has a full feed before we begin the session.  A belly full of milk together with a nice warm room helps your little one go into a nice deep sleep.  At certain stages within the first few weeks your little one will go through growth spurts and may feed more than they usually do.  This is normal and I allow plenty of time during the session to give them a top up if they need it.

BEING PHOTOGRAPHED WITH YOUR BABY AND PICKING COLOURS

If you would like to be photographed with during your baby photography session I also have some helpful advice on what to wear.  I have put together a handy Pinterest page with inspiration on coordinating your outfits.  It's advisable to bring a change of clothing in case of any accidents.

When you arrive at your session you can choose the colours that you love best and will work in your home.  I will then pick out some coordinating props including hats, headbands for girls and layering fabrics.
